The Evolutionism of Golf
Although Darwin didn’t talk about the development of golf in his Evolution Theory, golf is truly experiencing a great revolution during hundreds of years, which is an unescapable thing just like cold weapon’s evolving into hot weapon.

Course Type:
Hundreds of years ago, there was just one type of golf course—the naturally formed Links Course, which is still the most special course even today.
However, as the golf sport spread fast, it is a necessary for golf to be diversified. In recent 100 years, there emerged many new kinds of course, such as garden course, mountain course, hill course, forest course and so on.

Course Earthwork
In non-mechanized age, natural terrain was the dominant part of a course, and some simple models and fairway transformations are conducted by manual labor. At that time most of lands suitable for playing golf turned into the earliest golf courses. However, today’s courses and landscape depend more on machine, and we building the landscape and fairway by moving a lot of earthwork.

Choice of Grass Species:
The original course in Scotland adopted single grass species that are suitable for links course only, which is also the choice of nature. When golf sports entered into America where soil was in abundant type, the grass species for golf started to need an evolution. A series of new species was born to meet the need of different climate and soil, marks a milestone in golf history.

Course Length:
The early course with 18 holes was only 5000 yardages. Later with the development of players and equipment, 6000-yardage course showed to meet people’s need for competition and entertainment. Nowadays, most courses are among 7000 to 8000 yardages, and with technology’s development, future courses would be longer.

Course Maintenance
A modern course with robust irrigation system, efficient mowers and computerized management would amaze people immediately as technology has devoted that much to golf. However, 100 years ago, it’s hard to image how much labor it needs to maintain a course. The managers then were more like diligent farmers—worked hard and prayed for good weather.

Course Quality:
Designed naturally on perfect terrains and landscape, the golf course built decades ago dominate the first-class courses in today’s world. However, it can’t be denied that technology could also make modern course impressive even without long history. Best grass species, perfect irrigation system and beautiful model conducted by modern machines—all of these make the high-quality modern course an artwork.

Course Difficulty:
Not only the length but also the difficulty of course has changed during hundreds of years’ development. For instance, the bunker position and rough design now make it harder to play on it. Only by this we can make golf sport still challengeable for developed technology and more skilled player.

Hi-tech Management Mode for Course
A modern course will need vast labor if it isn’t equipped with intelligentized management system. Whereas, a software management system would highly improve the efficient and increase your revenue.
